Two centres, two conservation areas

Godstone has two conservation areas: The Green, around the village green and pond, and Church Town, the older centre by St Nicholas' Church. A house by the green and a house by the church are separate checks, so start with the boundary map for your address.

The older buildings here were often added to over centuries. Pilgrim Cottage began as a timber-framed house in the late sixteenth century, gained another framed bay in the seventeenth and later a brick addition. The front of a house and its back wing can be quite different ages.

Choosing windows in Godstone

In the two village centres, keep openings in proportion with the brick or timber around them and avoid adding bars that were never there. Where the house or the council calls for timber, it can be supplied; otherwise a flush casement keeps a traditional look with far less upkeep.

Outside the centres, towards Tilburstow Hill and the countryside, most houses are free to choose. Being in a conservation area doesn't by itself mean every window change needs an application, but check listed status and any Article 4 direction first.

Prices

Every price is worked out for your house. It depends on the sizes of the windows, how many there are and where they sit, the access, and the materials, colours and hardware you choose. Book a free home visit and you'll have an exact price for your job.

The prices page shows typical totals by house type.
